Hi, my name is Stella Metsovas, and today we’re going to be talking about a really important topic and that is the description of nutrition. Now I know there’s tons of information out there, health, diet, nutrition, one day something is good for you, the next day it’s bad. Just know one thing about nutrition, your body depends on you feeding it healthy foods and nutrition is so important because it can actually prevent you from getting diseases and that’s a fact. There’s research behind it. So nutrition is super important and the way you’re going to look at nutrition from here on out is you’re going to divide it into these parts. There are six categories of nutrients that help your body run optimally and they are from food, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fibers, vitamins, minerals and of course water. So the best sources of all of these categories are foods that are minimally processed so you basically don’t want to have any foods that are processed, foods that are from the grounds or make a sound, that’s my rule of thumb. Dark green leafy vegetables, greens, fruits, always seasonal, make sure to buy seasonal that’s a key component to the Mediterranean diet. You want to make sure that your proteins are nice and lean. Don’t fry your foods, watch your sodium content. Processed foods have a lot of sodium for a reason, to preserve the actual food so get away from all that junk, get to real nutrition and you’ll thank yourself for it.
