Hi, my name is Stella Metsovas, and today I’m gonna talk about the caloric value of sugar verses carbohydrate. Now to me, really there is no value of calories found in sugar. Sugar just really doesn’t provide the body anything healthy. So getting rid of that as much as possible is key. Now the real value comes in carbohydrate. And the more complex a carbohydrate, the better, because it slows the release of insulin in the body, and that’s a key component to your overall health. If you eat complex carbohydrates, or those paired with fiber, fats or protein, you give your body more of a chance to deal with the sugar more gradually. So brown rice, quinoa, buckwheat, heavy, heavy starchy carbs, they’re key in making sure that your body is healthy by slowing the release of glucose. Now be sure to remember there is a big difference between a complex carbohydrate and a simple sugar.
